wouldn't it be easier to replace the cd drive and update the drivers? then format no problem.
it is only a celeron chip after all.
What is she going to use it for? if only surfing and email, Netbooks are really cheap right now.

Ask Biggie, but if it reads dvd's, then it should read cd's.. doesn't it use the same head?

Update the drivers yet? Bios? battery one mother board? good luck! Sorry if I wasn't any help.
